Griffins Win Thrilling Overtime Over CSU-Pueblo

Kitzman, Andrews and Johnson record career-high scoring.

SALT LAKE CITY—A career night of scoring for Matt Kitzman, Joey Andrews and Brayden Johnson as the Griffins get a thrilling overtime win over CSU-Pueblo, 106-103.
 
Westminster led for 33 minutes but found themselves trailing by three with six seconds left in the second half. Joey Andrews drove across midcourt and beat the buzzer with a banked three from deep to send the game to overtime, 90-90.
 
Bryce Sanchious gave the Thhunderwolves a one-point lead after drawing a foul on a layup for a three-point play. Brayden Johnson scored to give Westminster its second lead of the game and Liki Makaui came up with a big steal and an assist on the next possession to give the Griffins a three-point lead with 33 second left.
 
It was all about free throws as the Griffins made 5-5 from the stripe to keep their lead for the win.
 
The Griffins shot 60.3% from the field and nearly doubled the Thunderwolves for points in the paint with 66-34. In overtime Westminster shot 4-4 from the field and 8-10 from the stripe.
 
Pueblo's David Simental led all scorers with 48 points, making 5-8 from beyond the arc and 15-16 from the stripe. Pueblo kept pace with the Griffins shooting 51.9% from three, making 14-27 from three.
 
Kitzman shot 13-16 from the field, 2-3 from three and 4-4 from the stripe to lead the Griffins with 32 points. He also led with five assists and was one of four with a blocked shot and one of two with two steals.
 
Andrews made 12-16 from the field, 2-4 from three and 3-4 from the stripe. He had two steals and led the team with 12 rebounds for his second double-double of the season.
 
Brayden Johnson scored 19 points making 7-11 from the field and 5-8 from free throws.
 
The Griffins head to #1 Colorado School of Mines on Friday and Regis on Saturday. They return home the following week against Fort Lewis and Western Colorado to end the regular season.
