SALT LAKE CITY - Westminster women's basketball (5-4, 4-1 RMAC) saw its four-game winning streak come to an end after a second-half comeback attempt fell short in a 65-54 loss to CSU Pueblo (8-2, 4-0 RMAC) on Thursday night in the Behnken Field House.
Westminster trailed by as many as 20 midway through the third period but came storming back with a 14-0 run late in the third. After an
Ashley Greenwood converted on an and-one to end the third, Westminster was within two possessions down six, but the Pack hit three more three's to finish 12-of-18 (67 percent) from deep on the night and led by as many as 11 down the stretch of the final quarter.
Greenwood led the Griffins in scoring for the fifth time this season and tallied 16 points with five rebounds while
Abby Mangum finished with 14 points and five rebounds.Â
Sarah McGinley had nine rebounds with 10 points on 4-of-9 shooting while
Rae Falatea went 3-of-11 overall to finish with 10 points.
The Pack benefited from 19 Westminster turnovers as CSU Pueblo finished with a 22-11 advantage in points off of turnovers. The Griffins owned a 28-16 edge on points in the paint but could not keep up with the Pack's hot shooting as CSU Pueblo finished 20-of-47 (43 percent) overall and tied for the most made three's (12) against this Griffins so far this season.
The Griffins went into the night with the eighth-best shooting percentage in the nation, but were unable to get into their offense for much of the night and finished just 19-of-51 (37.3 percent) from the field.
Westminster will see a one-week break in its schedule before traveling to play at N.M. Highlands on Fri., Dec. 31, and UC-Colorado Springs on Sat., Jan. 1.
