SALT LAKE CITY - Westminster men's basketball (1-1) will be back on the road this weekend as it travels to St. Sault Marie, Mich., for back-to-back games against Lake Superior State on Friday and Saturday beginning at 3 p.m. (MDT) and 1 p.m. (MDT), respectively.  The Griffins split their first non-conference weekend with a 71-67 loss to Western N.M. followed by a 69-68 win over Texas Permian Basin last week.

- Both of this weekend's men's basketball games will be hosted by at the Ronald "Bud" Cooper Gymnasium on the campus of Lake Superior State in St. Sault Marie, Mich.
- General admission into this weekend's games is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, and $6 for groups and children 17 and under.

About the Griffins:
- 
Westminster opened the season 1-1 in a pair of 
non-conference games against 
Lone Star Conference teams that were each decided by less than five.
- In Odessa, Texas last week, 
the Griffins fell, 71-67 to Western N.M. on Friday in their season opener but followed that with a 
69-68 road win over weekend hosts, 
Texas Permain Basin, on Saturday night.
- Last season's leading scorer, 
Reme Torbert, started last week's season opener but exited the first half early with an injury and
 did not play in Saturday's win over UT-Permain Basin.
- 
Donaval Avila, a freshman guard from Petal, Miss., leads the team in scoring after its first weekend of the regular season after 
scoring in double digits in back-to-back games to start the season. With 
11 points against
 Western N.M. and
 14 points against 
UTPB, Avila has begun the season a perfect 
5-of-5 from the field and 
15-of-16 (94 percent) at the 
free throw line.
- Senior transfer from Tennessee State, 
Yusuf Mohamed, 
scored 19 against UTPB on 
7-of-12 shooting that included 
2-of-2 on three-pointers.
- Senior guard from Las Vegas, Nev., 
Jarrett Jordan had the team's first 20-point game of the season, finishing with 20 pts, five rebounds and three assists against UTPB. 
- 
Avila and 
Jordan each had a 
team-high three offensive rebounds to help Westminster finish with a 10-8 edge in second-chance points against UTPB.  
Matt Kitzman led the Griffins with 
seven boards on the night.
- Forwards, 
Lewis Johnson and
 Brayden Johnson combined for
 11.5 rebounds a game on the first weekend of the regular season.
- The Griffins finished the first weekend with a 
73-52 rebounding advantage (+10.5 per game) over its two opponents but suffered from a 
-7.0 turnover margin per game.
- 
Westminster trailed at the half in both games last week and 
were outscored 62-53 in the first half but
 outscored its opponents 83-77 in the second half.
About the Lakers:
- Lake Superior State will be playing its season opener on Friday night as it had its first two scheduled games vs. Southwest Baptist and Missouri S&T cancelled.
- The Lakers lost 91-81 in an exhibition contest at Oakland back on Nov. 5.
- Against Oakland, redshirt senior 
Malek Adams led the team with 23 points as he went 8-for-15 with a team-high seven threes, and a team-best eight assists.
- Junior 
Xander Okerlund put up 20 points on 6-of-11 shooting from deep.
- Last season, the Lakers played a conference-only schedule due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
- During the abbreviated schedule, the Lakers combined for an 8-11 record, which led the team to an eighth place finish in the GLIAC.
- LSSU averaged 73.8 points per game on a 45.4 field goal percentage. The team finished the season with 34.6 three-point percentage, and averaged 32.4 rebounds per game during the 19 game season.
- Forward 
Kemon Bassett was named First Team All-GLIAC, guard 
Malek Adams was named Second Team All-GLIAC and guard 
C.J. Robinson was named to the All-GLIAC Defensive Team.
2020-21 Westminster Year in Review:
- Westminster posted its 
best conference finish since becoming eligible for postseason play in 2020-21 with 
three wins over its last five games to finish 9-10 in a schedule that was limited to conference-only games due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 
- Due to a qualification system in which RPI rankings determined the RMAC Tournament field, Westminster was forced to miss out on postseason play.
- Westminster went 
5-3 at home last season, finishing 4-7 away from the Behnken Field House.
- The Griffins had a pair of all-conference performers as 
Joey Andrews was named 
Second Team All-RMAC while 
Matt Kitzman received 
honorable mention all-conference recognition.
- Westminster 
won five of seven to begin the year before hitting a five-game losing skid mid-season.  The Griffins snapped the streak with a 
20-point win on the road 
at S.D. Mines and captured a 
106-103 overtime win vs. CSU Pueblo the following weekend.
- Westminster split games on its final two weekends of the season, playing one of its best games of the season offensively, 
shooting over 60 percent from the field as a team in a 
94-84 win vs. Western Colorado on Senior Night in the regular-season finale.

Westminster will host its home opener during the holiday week as it takes on Central Washington next Friday, Nov. 26, tipping at 7 p.m., followed by a game on Saturday, Nov. 27, against Western Oregon, also starting at 7 p.m.
