DURANGO, Colo. - Westminster volleyball (3-13 1-7 RMAC) dropped its second match of the weekend, 3-1 (14-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-13), on the road at Fort Lewis College (3-9, 3-5 RMAC) on Saturday at the Fort Lewis Fieldhouse.
Westminster had one of its best sets of the season offensively to open the match, hitting .393 as a team with 13 kills to only two attack errors in a dominant 25-14 first-set win. Westminster pulled ahead with a 7-0 run midway through the opening set and built its lead up to nine with another 4-0 burst to go up, 21-12.
Westminster closed out the set with a sideout and a service ace from
Alanna Lee, but it was all downhill from that point for the Griffins. After a baker's dozen in kills to begin the match, Westminster combined for only 14 total in the second and third sets and suffered from a negative hitting percentage with just five kills as a team in the fourth.
Avery Alger had a season-high seven blocks on the afternoon and libero,
Alanna Lee, led the Griffins with 18 digs but the Fort Lewis attack got better as the match progressed, finishing with a .238 hitting percentage as a team for the match.
Natalia Lambos and Alexis Hobie each had a match-high 13 kills and the Sky Hawks finished with 50 assists as a team.
Westminster, which is now in the midst of a five-match losing skid, will look to right the ship against Texas A&M-Kingsville, the first match in a brief three-match home stand, on Wednesday night beginning at 5 p.m.
