SALT LAKE CITY - Westminster (3-14, 1-7 RMAC) saw its best hitting percentage over its past five matches but was unable to generate enough momentum to consistently stay ahead of Texas A&M Kingsville in a 3-1 (22-25, 25-21, 25-17, 26-24) loss on Wednesday night at the Behnken Field House.
Westminster came out firing on offense, finishing with a .227 hitting percentage while holding Texas A&M Kingsville to just .122 hitting in a 25-22 first-set win.
After just four attack errors in the first, Westminster suffered from a combined 13 errors over the next two sets as the Griffins finished with a .083 hitting percentage in both the second and third sets, respectively.
Westminster led late at 20-16 in the second but Texas A&M Kingsville went on a 7-0 run to go up, 23-20, and eventually won the set 25-21 on a Griffins' attack error. Texas A&M Kingsville went on to win the first 10 points of the third en route to a 25-17 win.
Westminster saw set point in the fourth, ahead 24-23, but the Javelinas went on to win the next three points to steal the fourth-set win, 26-24.
The Griffins will host a pair of RMAC contests this weekend beginning with S.D. School of Mines on Friday at 6 p.m. and Black Hills State on Saturday beginning at 4 p.m.
