PUEBLO, Colo. - Sophia DiGeronimo scored her first goal of the season on a strike from over 25 yards out in the 25th minute but Westminster women's soccer (4-1-2, 1-1-1 RMAC) conceded an 86th-minute equalizer from CSU Pueblo (4-4-1, 3-0-1 RMAC) in a 1-1 draw at the Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.
Westminster dominated the first-half possession and saw a majority of the offensive opportunities throughout the match, finishing with an 11-6 advantage in shots on goal for the match.
DiGeronimo put the Griffins ahead with a long strike in the 25th minute from well beyond the CSU Pueblo penalty area. Her shot flew over the head of goalkeeper, Breanna Encinas, and into the top right corner of the net to put Westminster on top, 1-0.
The Griffins held even more possession in the second half and looked like they'd close out their fifth shutout of the season, allowing just one shot on target in the second half.
CSU Pueblo thought they'd scored on an indirect free kick with fifteen minutes to play, but the goal was called back and the Griffins continued to hold onto their one-goal advantage. Just over ten minutes later, Faith Meredith capitalized on a late Thunderwolves' attack to even the match at 1-1 with just four minutes to play.
Both teams went scoreless in the extra period with only one shot on goal each, ending the match in a 1-1 draw.
Westminster will be back at home next weekend as it hosts Regis on Friday, Oct. 8 followed by Colorado School of Mines on Sunday, Oct. 10.
