COLORADO SPRINGS - Westminster men's basketball was picked to finish 10th in the latest RMAC Men's Basketball Preseason Coaches Poll which was announced by the league office on Wednesday. The RMAC preseason poll is voted on by the league's 15 head coaches. Coaches are not permitted to vote for their program.
Colorado Mesa was picked to win the conference with 12 first-place votes while Colorado School of Mines (2) and Black Hills State (3) each had one first-place vote. Fourth-place UC-Colorado Springs (134 pts) and fifth-place Fort Lewis (132) finished just two points apart in the voting and rounded out the top five.
Westminster finished seventh in the conference regular-season standings a year ago with a 9-10 mark in its conference-only season in 2020-21. The Griffins return their second-leading scorer from last season,
Reme Torbert (10.5 ppg). Westminster will also bring back
Matt Kitzman, last season's team-leader in assists (44).
Westminster newcomers include a freshman class of six and senior transfer
Yusuf Mohamed from Tennessee State Univ.
The Griffins will play its first exhibition game of the season next Thurs., Nov. 4, at Utah with tip-off scheduled for 6 p.m.
