Griffins Secure Second-Straight Home Shutout

Westminster allowed just one shot on target in a 3-0 win over Colorado Christian on Sunday.

SALT LAKE CITY - Alex Hoffman put Westminster women's soccer (7-2-4, 4-2-3 RMAC) ahead just six minutes into the match and Alex Maple scored a pair of second-half goals to help secure a 3-0 win over Colorado Christian (4-8-3, 3-6-1 RMAC) on Sunday at Dumke Field.

Westminster picked up where it left off offensively, testing goalkeeper Ireland VanDyke early and often.  Just six minutes into the match, Alexa Maple sent a corner kick to the far post where she found Alex Hoffman who struck a first-time shot into the top of the net on the keeper's near side, putting the Griffins ahead 1-0.

Westminster finished the first half with a 13-3 advantage in shots and a 5-0 advantage in shots on target but were unable to net an insurance goal as the two sides went into the break with the Griffins in front by a single goal.

The Griffins continued to apply the same level of pressure out of the halftime break and in the 53rd minute, Maple made a run into the 18-yard-box and found space towards the keeper's left.  Using her left foot, Maple lifted a ball over the keepers outstretched hands and into the top left-hand corner of the net to double the Westminster lead.

Five minutes after Maple's first goal, she stepped up for a corner and sent in a perfect near-post ball that snuck past VanDyke and her near post defender to give Westminster its' third goal of the match.

Westminster again allowed just three total shots from Colorado Christian in the second half and continued to limit CCU's possession in the Westminster defensive third. 

Naomi Kehl and Kelsea Cracroft combined for the clean sheet performance, the third-straight game without allowing a goal for the Griffins.

With the win, Westminster sits alone in sixth place in the RMAC Women's Soccer Standings as the Griffins prepare for their final three matches of conference play.

Westminster will travel to Adams State and N.M. Highlands next Friday and Sunday, respectively, before returning home for their regular-season finale on Wed., Nov. 3.
