PUEBLO, Colo. - Olivia Curtis had 11 kills to lead Westminster volleyball (4-16, 2-9 RMAC) offensively for a second straight match, but the Griffins fell, 3-0 (25-23, 25-11, 25-20) on the road on Friday night at the Massari Arena.
Westminster had only two attack errors and had 14 kills with a .300 attack percentage in the opening set, but CSU Pueblo racked up 17 kills as a group and stopped a late Griffins' rally to win the first, 25-23, to begin the match.
The Thunderwolves quickly jumped ahead for a second-straight set and took a commanding 13-4 lead after a 6-0 run midway through the second. CSU Pueblo took advantage of six Westminster attack errors and the Griffins' .000 hitting percentage in set two to win 25-11 to go up by two sets. The Griffins led by as many as three on two separate occasions early in the third set, but the Thunderwolves regained the lead on a Grace Jansen service ace to go up 16-15 and never relinquished the advantage en route to a 25-20 third set win.
Curtis finished with a .320 hitting percentage to along with her 11-kill performance and teammates
Katie Jacox (13) and
Bri Mortensen (11) each finished with double digit assists.
Westminster will look to bounce back tomorrow night as it continues its road trip at UC-Colorado Springs beginning at 5 p.m.
