SALT LAKE CITY - Kelsea Cracroft and
Naomi Kehl combined to keep Black Hills State (3-7-1, 2-5-1 RMAC) off of the scoresheet and Westminster women's soccer (5-2-4, 2-2-3) had three separate goal scorers in a 3-0 win on Friday night at Dumke Field.
Westminster dominated the play in the first 45 minutes and went ahead in 20th minute on
Alexa Maple's third goal of the season. Maple brought in a short pass from
Brynnae Braun and quickly pulled the trigger on a shot from 25 yards out in the middle of the field that sailed over keeper Makayla Dannelly's head and into the back of the Yellow Jackets' net.
Just ten minutes later, Westminster narrowly missed another chance in the offensive third that hit the goal frame and bounced back out to the feet
Aimee Kurfurst. Kurfurst then played a hard, low cross into
Sophia DiGeronimo who redirected the cross into Dannelly's net to give the Griffins a two-goal advantage.
Westminster finished the first half with a 17-1 advantage in total shots and a 9-1 advantage in shots on target as Dannelly did well to hold the Griffins to just two first-half goals. Dannelly faced another 14 shots in the second half and made seven more saves but the Westminster attack proved relentless.
With just over one minute to play in the match,
Cassidy Orr took advantage of her final look at goal, slipping a ball past Dannelly off of a feed from
Sage Stott to give Westminster the 3-0 lead in the final moments prior to the final whistle from head referee Marcelo Chaparro.
The Griffins will be back in action on Sunday afternoon as they take on Colorado Christian beginning at 2:30 p.m., back at Dumke Field.
