SALT LAKE CITY - Westminster men's soccer (6-8, 3-3) picked up a much needed three points in the conference standings with three games left to play, winning 1-0 over Regis (7-5-1, 3-3 RMAC) on Friday afternoon at Dumke Field.

Westminster came out with a sense of urgency, forcing the issue offensively to the tune of a 10-7 advantage in first-half shots including six shots on target.  The early pressure finally paid off in the 35th minute when Armin Hasanovic carried a ball off of a deep throw-in into the Rangers' penalty area and finished with a hard strike past goalkeeper Tim Dolan to give the Griffins a one-goal advantage going into the halftime break.

The Griffins did not see nearly as much action in the attacking third over the course of the second 45 minutes, but Westminster was satisfied controlling the possession and allowed only three shots on target in the entire second frame.  Goalkeeper Ian Rose was still tested and finished with five total saves as he answered the bell multiple times in the second half to keep Regis off of the scoresheet.

Rose directed 11 Regis corner kicks away from his net during the match and earned his third shutout of the season as Westminster held its 1-0 lead through the full time whistle in the first game of the night at Dumke Field. 

Westminster will return to action on Sunday afternoon as they look to continue climbing the RMAC standings down the final stretch of conference play.  The Griffins will host S.D. School of Mines on Sunday beginning at 12 p.m., back at Dumke Field.
