Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Westminster Drops Road Matchup at MSU Denver

Westminster men's soccer fell 3-1 at MSU Denver on Sunday afternoon.

DENVER - Justus Kjellander converted an 84th-minute penalty which proved to be  a consolation goal as Westminster men's soccer (6-8, 3-3 RMAC) fell, 3-1, on the road at MSU Denver (5-8-1, 2-4 RMAC) on Sunday afternoon at The Assembly Athletic Complex.

Westminster fell behind early when MSU Denver's Aaron Biggerstaff and Hernan Ibarra combined to set up Aidan Bates for the opening goal of the match.

Less than three minutes later, Bates doubled his goal total on the afternoon and the Roadrunners' lead with another goal off of combination play from Biggerstaff and Hernan.

MSU Denver held onto the two-goal advantage into the 83rd minute when Noah Hannula made it a three-goal advantage off of a Roadrunners' free kick.  Bryson Chiles slid the quick pass over Hannula on a free kick from just outside the Griffins' prenalty area and Hannula connected first time on a powerful strike past goalkeeper, Ian Rose.

Rose did well to hold MSU Denver to three, making four saves on the afternoon, but Westminster was only able to breakthrough on Kjellander's penalty in the 84th minute.

Westminster will return to action at home next Friday when it hosts Regis beginning at 4 p.m.  The Griffins will then host S.D. Mines next Sunday at 12 p.m.
