SALT LAKE CITY—Mariah Martín and
Lyndzi Rich combined for 44 points and led all scorers as the women's basketball team cruised to a 21-point win over Chadron State for its first win of 2021.
The Griffins finished the night shooting 55.4% from the field, making 7-22 from three and 5-7 from the stripe. They scored 52 points in the paint, saw 23 points from the bench and dominated the boards out rebounding the Eagles 46-24.
Chadron led by four at the end of the first quarter shooting 10-14 from the field and 2-5 from three.
Halfway through the second quarter, Westminster went on a 10-point run to take a five-point lead, and finished the half leading by nine, 44-35.
The Griffins led by as much as 23 in the third quarter as they stretched their outscoring the Eagles by 13.
Westminster won with the final score, 84-63, improving to 2-1 on the season.
Rich recorded her first double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds. She was 9-14 from the field and 2-3 from the stripe.
Martín scored a season high 22 points shooting 9-13 from the field, 1-3 from three and 3-4 from the stripe. She recorded seven assists and grabbed six rebounds.
Sarah McGinley grabbed a team high 12 rebounds and scored nine points.
The Griffins are on the road next weekend at Colorado Christian on Friday and MSU Denver on Saturday. The games will be streamed live on the RMAC Network.
