GUNNISON, Colo.—Another close game for the Griffins who fell, 74-78, on the road to Western Colorado. Close games have been the norm for the Griffins (5-5, 5-5 RMAC) this season with every game being decided by fewer than 10 points.
The Griffins led twice in the first half and once in the second. A 15-6 run, early in the second, gave the Griffins its final lead for a brief moment.
Matt Kitzman and
Taylor Miller combined for three threes in the final minute to cut the home side's lead from nine to four as the game came to an end.
The Griffins shot 50.0% from the field, made 8-23 from three and 6-7 from the free throw line. They scored 34 points in the paint, outscoring Western by 12.
Brayden Johnson and
Brandon Willardson each had 13 points to lead the Griffins in scoring. Johnson shot 6-6 from the field and was 1-1 for three. Willardson was 6-12 from the field and 1-2 from the strip.
Kitzman and
Joey Andrews each scored 12 points and matched each other in the score sheet, shooting 5-9 from the field and 2-4 from three.
Reme Torbert rounded out the top scored with 10 points.
Isaiah Banks was the teams leading rebounder with seven. Willardson came second with five and Andrews and
Taylor Miller each grabbed four.
The Griffins finish the weekend at Fort Lewis at 6 pm tomorrow.
