GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.—A rematch of the 2018-19 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference women's basketball final is set between Colorado Mesa and Westminster. The Griffins defeated the Trailblazers, 65-53, completing a three-game sweep over the Trailblazers.
Westminster finished 44.6 percent from the field (25-56) and 40.9 percent from three (9-22), out shooting Dixie State who finished 32.7 (17-52) percent from the field and 21.1 percent from three (4-19). The Griffins out rebounded the Trailblazers 40-27.
The Griffins led the entire game after Sara McGinley scored from beyond the arc for the game's first basket. The Griffins finished the half with a 10-point lead, 34-24.
Westminster opened the third quarter with a 12-3 run for its largest lead of the game, 18-points.
The Trailblazers made a small run to reduce the Griffins' lead to single digits but couldn't come any closer than eight points as the teams traded baskets through the fourth quarter.
Kaitlin Toluono shot 70 percent from the field going 2-3 from three and 2-3 from free throws tying a season and career high 18 points to lead the Griffins in scoring. Toluono grabbed six rebounds and recorded four assists.
Mariah Martin scored 15 points and had a team leading nine rebounds and five assists.
Hunter Krebs and
Sarah McGinley each contributed 13 points.
The Griffins and Mavericks meet tomorrow, Saturday Mar. 6, at 6 pm in Grand Junction, Colo.
