Hunter Krebs scored 24 points and
Kaitlin Toluono added 18 points and 12 rebounds as Westminster women's basketball held off Fort Lewis College, 63-61, on Friday night at Behnken Field House.
The Griffins got out to a hot start, scoring 24 points in the first period behind five 3-pointers. Westminster led by nine at halftime, with Krebs scoring 18 first-half points.
Westminster struggled shooting the ball in the second half and led by just six points going into the fourth quarter. After the Griffins scored the first four points of the period, the Skyhawks reeled off 10 straight to tie the game at 55.
Two Fort Lewis free throws tied the game at 59 with just under one minute to play. Krebs and Toluono responded with back-to-back buckets sandwiched around a Fort Lewis five-second violation while trying to inbound the ball, giving the Griffins a four-point lead with nine seconds to play. The Skyhawks scored then tried to foul but couldn't get the ball back as time expired.
Sarah McGinley added eight points and four assists, and
Mariah Martin scored seven points, grabbed five rebounds and dished out four assists.
The Griffins host Adams State tomorrow night at 5:30 p.m. at Behnken Field House. The game will be streamed live on the
RMAC Network.
