MBB Preview: 2-0 Griffins On The Road At Chadron And Black Hills

SALT LAKE CITY—The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference men's basketball season continues for the Griffins as they head to Chadron State and Black Hills State this weekend. The Griffins started the season 2-0 with a pair of wins over MSU Denver and CCU last weekend.

After two games, the Griffins are averaging 67.5 points, shooting 43.4% from the field, 28.6% from three and 60.5% from the free throw line. The defense is third in the RMAC allowing 63.0 points per game with teams shooting 35.2% from the field and 32.4% from three.

Westminster is second in the conference in defensive rebounding, grabbing 32.0 per game, and third in total rebounding, averaging 39.5 rebounds per game.

Isaiah Banks leads the team with 14.5 points. He scored a season-high 21 points in Saturday's win over the three-point shooting CCU. Banks also leads the team with seven assists.

Reme Torbert scored a season-high 17 points over CCU. He is second on the team with 12.0 points per game and third in rebounding with 4.5 rebounds per game.

Joey Andrews led the team with a season-high 12 points over MSU Denver on Friday. He leads the team under the basket with 9.0 rebounds per game.

Taylor Miller is Second on the team in rebounding, grabbing 6.0 per game. He grabbed a season high eight rebounds against CCU.

The Griffins received five votes in the NABC Division II Coaches Poll.

History vs Chadron
Westminster won, 83-72, in Chadron last season. The teams have met seven times since 2012 with Westminster enjoying a five-game win streak and leading the series 6-1, 2-1 on the road and 4-0 at home.

The Eagles play their first games this weekend after games against Fort Lewis and Western State were postponed/canceled.

The Eagles return just six players, four that averaged 13+ minutes per game.

Junior Jacob Jefferson played 28 games and started 24, averaging 19.2 minutes per game. He was second on the team with 10.8 points and third in rebounding with 4.3 per game.

Senior Brady Delimont started 27 games with 11 starts. He averaged 19.6 minutes and 6.0 points.

Sophomore Andre Sepeda averaged 13.6 minutes in 28 games with five starts. He scored 4.2 points per game.

Junior Kayden Sund averaged 16.2 minutes in 26 games and seven starts. Sund averaged 2.2 points and 3.4 rebounds per game.

History vs Black Hills State
The Griffins and Yellowjackets have played six times since 2016. Westminster won, 65-64, at home last year to tie the series 3-3. The Griffins will be looking for their first win in Spearfish, S.D.

Like Chadron, Black Hills have not played a game with games against MSU Denver, Western Colorado and Fort Lewis being postponed/canceled. They Yellowjackets return five players that averaged more than 19 minutes with 28 games played.

The Yellowjackets return three of their top-five scorers from the '19-20 season. Sophomore Joel Scott played 29 games and started 28. Scott averaged 30.6 minutes, 17.4 points to lead the team. He was second on the team with 6.0 rebounds. He was 60.1% from the field, 48.6 from three and 72.7 from the stripe.

Senior Trey Whitley started and played 28 games averaging 30.6 minutes per game. He scored 14.9 points shooting 49.2% from the field, 36.7% from three and 87.5% from the stripe.

Sava Dukic averaged 23.6 minutes in 28 games and three starts. He shot 41.2% from the field, 39.5% from three and 77.5% from the stripe, averaging 7.8 points per game.
