Griffins Hold Off Late UCCS Rally, Win 75-64

SALT LAKE CITY - Westminster women's basketball withstood a fourth-quarter surge from UCCS en route to a 75-64 victory on Saturday night at Behnken Field House.

Hunter Krebs finished with a game-high 25 points and five rebounds. Mariah Martin finished with 23 points, five rebounds and three assists, and Sarah McGinley posted 17 points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.

The Griffins held a nine-point advantage heading in to the final quarter. After a Martin jumper to start the period and give Westminster an 11-point lead, the Mountain Lions scored nine straight to cut the deficit to just two. The Griffins responded, outscoring the UCCS 15-6 the rest of the game. Martin and Krebs had eight points apiece in the fourth quarter to stifle the Mountain Lions' comeback attempt.

Westminster jumped out to a 9-2 lead to start the game. Krebs hit three 3-pointers in the span of 3 minutes to help stretch the lead as large as 13 in the first half. Krebs had 15 of her 25 points in the first two periods.

Makenna Baker led UCCS with 11 points, and Anna Devern added 10.

Westminster will play at Chadron State and MSU Denver next weekend. Both games will be streamed live on the RMAC Network
