CHADRON, Neb. – Westminster women's basketball began its two-game weekend road trip with a dominant, 80-51 victory over Chadron State on Friday night at the Chicoine Events Center.
The Griffins (12-2, 7-1 RMAC) jumped on the Eagles early and held a lead of 45-18 at halftime, holding Chadron State to just 8 and 10 points in the first and second quarters, respectively.
"We had a strong first half, and although we scored really well I was especially happy with our defense," head coach
Shelley Jarrard said.
Westminster maintained its lead throughout the second half, leading by as much as 31 and never allowing Chadron State closer than 22 en route to the 29-point win.
Westminster was led by a trio of 15-point scorers –
Sarah McGinley,
Mariah Martin and
Kaitlin Toluono. McGinley added six rebound and three assists, and Toluono also grabbed six boards.
"We shared the ball really well and had six players almost reach double figures, which is fantastic," Jarrard added.
Hunter Krebs pitched in 13 points,
Kaylee Carlsen scored nine and
Abby Mangum finished with seven.
The Griffins return to action tomorrow, June 11, at Metropolitan State University Denver. The game is scheduled to tip at 4:30 p.m. and will be streamed live on the
RMAC Network.
