SALT LAKE CITY – Westminster women's basketball lost to Colorado Mines, 80-70, on Friday night at Behken Field House, the Griffins first conference loss of the season and second loss overall.
The Griffins (10-2, 5-1 RMAC) got off to a slow start, as the Orediggers used an 8-0 run in the first period to take an 18-10 lead into the second. Westminster battled back to within one at the end of the first half, as
Sarah McGinley scored nine points and
Mariah Martin scored in the second period.
Holding a 40-39 lead in the third, Colorado Mines used a 12-2 run to jump out to an 11-point lead. Martin scored the Griffins' final seven points in the period to help Westminster cut the deficit to five heading into the final quarter.
Westminster got to within three in the fourth quarter, but the Orediggers' answered with a 8-1 run that restored a 10-point lead and put the game out of reach.
Martin led all scorers with 32 points and added six assists. McGinley finished with 16 points, and
Hunter Krebs had 10 points and six rebounds.
Colorado Mines' Denali Pinto had 30 points to lead the Orediggers.
The Griffins host the UCCS tomorrow night at Behken Field House. Tip off is set for 5:30 p.m. and the game will be streamed live on the
RMAC Network.
