SALT LAKE CITY – Westminster men's basketball used a dominant second half to beat Colorado Mesa, 77-62, on Saturday night at Behknen Field House.
Holding a six-point lead with 10 minutes to play, the Griffins used a 16-6 run to stretch the lead to 16 with five minutes left.
Brandon Warr led the charge, scoring eight of the 16 points, including a pair of 3-pointers. The Mavericks wouldn't get closer than 12 the rest of the way.
Jake Connor led all scorers with 20 points, including four 3-pointers. Connor scored 10 straight near the end of the first half to help the Griffins take a four-point lead into halftime.
Warr finished with 19 points and six rebounds. He scored 17 of his 19 points in the second half, including four 3-pointers over a 6-minute span.
Joonas Tahvanainen and
Alec Monson added 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Westminster will face Adams State and Fort Lewis College on the road next weekend. Both games will be broadcast live on the
RMAC Network.
