DENVER –
Hunter Krebs scored 17 points and
Mariah Martin added 16 as Westminster women's basketball beat Metropolitan State University Denver, 59-54, on Saturday night at Auraria Event Center.
"It was good road sweep for our team," head coach
Shelley Jarrard said. "Metro rattled us a bit on the quick turnaround game and we turned the ball over too much, but we strung together some great stop when we needed to."
Westminster held just a two-point advantage entering the fourth quarter, but started the period on a 7-1 run to take an eight-point lead. After MSU Denver cut the lead to four, the Griffins scored seven straight to stretch the lead to 11 with 1:28 left in the game.
Krebs scored seven of her 17 points in the fourth quarter to lead Westminster to the win. She added six rebounds and finished 3 of 5 from 3-point range.
"Hunter had a great weekend on both ends of the floor and really carried us tonight," Jarrard said.
Sarah McGinley scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds, and
Kaylee Carlsen added eight points and four rebounds.
The Griffins return home next weekend to host Regis University on Friday, January 17 and Colorado Christian on Saturday, January 18. Both games are scheduled to tip at 5:30 p.m. and will be streamed live on the
RMAC Network.
