Griffins Defeat Bentley And Go 2-0 On The Road

WALTHAM, Mass.—The Westminster women's soccer team defeated Bentley University, 2-0, for its second win this weekend. The Griffins will begin the conference season undefeated, 3-0-1.

"We started slow today but had a strong finish against a Bentley team that made it difficult to retain possession," Head Coach Tony LeBlanc said.

Westminster out shot the Falcons 13-2 with six shots on goal and 11 corner kicks, seven more than the home team. Goalkeeper Hillary Weixler made two saves as the she and the defense earned their third shutout of the season.

"I'm really proud of the defensive performance. Getting two shutouts on the road is always tough but that's just what we did," LeBlanc said.

Senior Aimee Kurfurst recorded an assist on the 15th minute game-winner after sophomore Brynnae Braun redirected Kurfurst's initial shot to beat the Bentley goalkeeper.

Sara Weixler headed senior McKell Kellogg's 73rd minute corner kick for an insurance goal.

Westminster travels to Dixie State for a conference opener on Sunday, 9/22, at 1:30 pm.
