Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Westminster Women’s Soccer Beats Franklin Pierce 1-0

RINDGE, NW – Sarah Reiber scored in the 19th minute and Hillary Weixler posted her third straight shutout as Westminster women's soccer beat Franklin Pearce 1-0 on Thursday at Sodexo Field.

The Griffins improved to 2-0-1 on the season and have won their last two games. The Griffins' back line has not given up a goal this season. Weixler faced just six total shots and recorded two saves.

Westminster took the early lead when the Griffins caught the Falcons in a quick counter attack. Forward Sara Weixler dribbled toward the left corner and served a left-footed cross into the box. The ball fell to the feet of a Franklin Pierce defender who miss hit the clearance, giving Reiber a clear shot in front of the goal and inside the box. Her shot deflected off the goalkeeper's hands and into the upper right corner of the net. Sara Weixler was credited with the assist.

The Griffins controlled the run of play throughout the game, putting up nine shots in the first half and 12 in the second half to finish with 21 to force Franklin Pearce goalkeepers Casey Kane and Ithaisa Vinoly into a combined nine saves. Westminster also had nine corner kicks, while Franklin Pearce had just three.

Westminster will be back in action at Bentley University in Waltham, Massachusetts, to play the Falcons on Saturday, September 14 at 7:30 am MST. Live stream and live stats will both be available.
