SALT LAKE CITY, Utah--Westminster's men's lacrosse team recognized its 12 seniors before the start of todays game against Colorado State University-Pueblo (CSUP). The Griffins (6-6, 3-0 RMAC) defeated the Thunderwolves (6-5, 1-2 RMAC), 15-11, and moved one step closer to winning the regular season and hosting the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Championship.
The Griffins took a commanding lead as eight different players scored for a 10-5 first-half lead.
Senior
Cole Flinders scored his second goal and senior
Kolton Atkinson completed a hat-trick to increase Westminster's lead by one at the end of the third period.
The Thunderwolves went on a 4-1 run and cut Westminster's lead down to three, 13-10. A goal from junior
Nick Marcy and Atkinson stopped CSUP's run to make it 15-10 with a little over one minute left in the game.
Senior
Ian Sime made took charge in the cage and made 15 saves.
Marcy was 4-5 for shots on goal and recorded seven points with three goals and four assists.
Atkinson scored four goals with 8-9 shots on goal. He also tallied an assist for five points. Flinders and freshman
Easton Albert each scored twice and assisted a goal for three points.
Westminster's next game is at Colorado Mesa (7-6, 2-1 RMAC) on Saturday, Apr. 20.
