ST. CHARLES, Mo.—Westminster's men's lacrosse (3-6, 0-0 RMAC) faced its second nationally ranked opponent in just three days. After a narrow lose to #15 Lindenwood the Griffins faced #16 Rockhurst (9-2). Tied at halftime, 6-6, Westminster was outscored 7-4 in the loss to the Hawks.
Nick Marcy scored on a man-up opportunity for the game's first goal. Rockhurst responded with three goals.
Dylan Tuor scored with a few minutes left in the period to make it 2-3.
The Griffins scored four in a row over four minutes to take a 6-3 lead.
Chance Beutler assisted Marcy to get things started, followed by a goal from
Kolton Atkinson, assisted by
Spencer Whinery.
Jacob Taylor and
Blake Gross each scored.
The Hawks scored three times, with two in the final minute, to tie the game at the half.
The Griffins led twice during the third period, but the home side scored three to finish the period with a two-point lead, 9-11.
Beutler scored Westminster's only goal in the fourth period to make it, 10-11. The Hawks finished the game with two more goals and the win, 13-10.
Taylor scored a season high three goals. Marcy scored a pair of goals and had a pair of assists. Atkinson scored twice taking his season tally to 28.
Mitchell Senour grabbed eight ground balls and went 14-24 on the faceoff.
Harrison Nye picked up four ground balls and caused one turnover and
Chase Flinders picked up three and caused one turnvoer.
Sean Edwards faced 28 shots and came up with a season high 15 saves.
Westminster returns home for its Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opener against Colorado Mesa on Saturday at 2 p.m.
