Griffins Defeated At University Of Tampa

Marcy and Atkinson continue to produce for the Griffins

TAMPA, Flo.--Westminster men's lacrosse was defeated, 17-11, at University of Tampa on Saturday. Senior Kolton Atkinson and junior Nick Marcy led the Griffin attack for the third game in a row.


The Griffins trailed at the half, 5-8, with five different players scoring goals.  Marcy assisted Atkinson for the games opening goal and the visiting sides only lead of the game.  Spencer Whinery was assisted by Jacob Taylor for the team's second and final goal of the first period.

Chance Beutler scored the team's third goal to get the ball rolling in the second period.  Ian Nadel assisted Taylor for the fourth and Marcy assisted Dylan Brauer for the fifth goal.

Twice the Griffins scored and reduced Tampa's lead to two during the third period.  Tampa scored three goal to finish the period and increased its lead to five.

Atkinson and Beutler each scored two goals in the fourth period.  Atkinson was assisted by Marcy and Daniel Lier on each goal, while Beutler's were both solo efforts.

Westminster was out shot 49-27 with 32 on goal.  Goalie Sean Edwards came up with 15 saves.

Atkinson and Marcy each had four points.  Atkinson scored four times and Marcy scored once and assisted three.  Beutler scored a hat-trick for the Griffins and Whinery and Taylor each recorded an assist and a goal.  Brauer scored a single goal and Nadel and Lier each tallied an assist.

Grant Phillips and Kyle Williams made their presence known on the defenseive side.  Phillips caused four turnovers and Williams led the team with six ground balls.

Westminster's next game is at home against Notre Dame de Namur on March 23.
