SALT LAKE CITY--In a rematch of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's top two teams, Westminster (17-3, 15-1 RMAC) led the entire game to defeat #16 Colorado Mesa (18-2, 15-1 RMAC) snapping its 17 game win streak.
The Griffins jumped out to a 10-point lead after starting the game with a 10-2 run. Westminster ended the first quarter with a five-point lead after the visitors finished the quarter with a 7-2 run.
Westminster took a two-point lead in at half after leading by 10 with four minutes remaining in the fourth quarter.
Denise Gonzalez scored eight third quarter points as the Griffins outscored the Mavericks, 18-11, and finished the quarter with a nine-point lead.
With a little over one minute left in the game, Westminster held a slight lead of four points. Olivie Elliss and
Rian Rawlings closed the game out at the free-throw line and Westminster finished with a four-point win, 67-51.
The Griffins outscored the Mavericks 24-17 in the pain and finished the night shooting 51.1 percent from the field and 46.2 percent from beyond the arc. Â
Gonzalez led the Griffins with 16 points. Elliss recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
