Salt Lake City – The Westminster Griffins women's basketball team saw Olivia Ellis lead the way with 16 points and 12 rebounds to help the Griffins soared past Western State 66-52. Westminster found a way to take an early lead after one quarter of play leading 18-15, but a strong defensive performance in the second quarter holding Western Colorado to only 10 points helped to secure the victory in RMAC play.
Despite an early surge of energy by Western Colorado in the third quarter the Griffins held their ground and still outscored Mountaineers 16-11 and 12-11 in fourth quarter.
Three other players scored in double figures on the night for the Griffins as
Hunter Krebs went 6-14 from the field with 12 points and six rebounds,
Kaitlin Toluono added 11 points of her own with five rebounds and Sicille Williams went 3-3 from beyond arch adding 11 points of her own in the victory for Westminster.
Next up for the Griffins they will hit the road for back to backs in Colorado with a stop on Friday night at Fort Lewis College with tip off at 5:30 MDT and then Saturday night they will make a stop in Alamosa with a matchup with the Grizzlies from Adams State.
