LAS VEGAS, NM – Westminster men's basketball fell to New Mexico Highlands 78-77 on a last-second jumper by the Cowboys' Sam Barnes-Thompkins on Saturday night at the John A. Wilson Complex.
The Griffins used a 21-5 run in the first half to take an eight-point lead. Westminster held a lead from the 4:39 mark in the first half until Barnes-Thompkins' game-winner.
Jake Connor and
Brandon Warr did the heavy lifting for the Griffins offensively, scoring 24 and 20 points, respectively. Joonas Tavahnainen added 12 points, and
Jai Jai Ely posted eight points, six rebounds and five assists.
Barnes-Thompkins led all scorers with 27 points for the Cowboys, and Raquan Mitchell added 22.
The Griffins will return to action after the new year, hosting Colorado Mines on Friday, January 3 and UCCS on Saturday, January 4. Both games will be streamed live on the
RMAC Network.
