WICHITA FALLS, Texas—The Westminster women's basketball team opened the season with a win on the road against Midwestern State, 78-72.
The Griffins had four players score double digit figures. Mariah Martín scored a team high 23 points.
Sarah McGinley and
Kaylee Carlsen both scored 16 and
Kaitlin Toluono scored 14 points.
Midwestern led by as much as 12 points in the third quarter. Westminster finished the period on a 11-3 run cutting the deficit to four points.
The Griffins tied the game twice before taking the lead, 62-60, with 5:40 left in the fourth. Carlsen and Martín scored 16 of Westminster's final 18 points to see them through to the end for the road win.
Westminster finished shooting 47.5 percent from the field, 38.5 from three and 15-20 from the charity stripe.
McGinley led all players with 12 rebounds. Carlsen recorded five steals and
Abby Mangum blocked three shots.
The Griffins play University of Texas at Tyler on Saturday at 4:30 pm MDT.
