NAMPA, Idaho – Westminster women's basketball opened the Fairfield Inn Tournament by beating Central Washington 70-60 on Friday afternoon at the Johnson Sports Center.
"This was a great team win," head coach 
Shelley Jarrard said. "They have a phenomenal points guard, several excellent shooters and a mobile, active post. They are a tough matchup, especially when their 3-point game is on."
The Griffins had four players in double figures, led by 
Sarah McGinley's 17 points and 
Abby Mangum's 14. 
Mariah Martin added 11 points, five assists and four rebounds. 
Hunter Krebs recorded 11 points and four rebounds in her first game of the season.
"We are thrilled to have Hunter back, she played very effective minutes for us," Jarrard added. "Everyone found different ways to help our team get this win and that's the mentality we need from this group."
Westminster ended the first quarter on a 12-2 run to take a 10-point lead. The Griffins' lead great to as large as 13 in the second quarter, but three straight 3-pointers pulled the Wildcats to within four. Alexis Pana hit her third three of the second quarter at the end of the half as the teams went into the break tied at 39.
The Griffins started building their lead again in the third quarter, starting the second half on a 10-1 run to seize a nine-point lead. Westminster led 58-49 heading into the fourth. The Griffins never led the Wildcats get closer than seven, and Mangum made three of four free throws in the last minutes to help preserve the win.
Westminster has won its first three games of the season behind strong contributions throughout the roster. The Griffins have six players averaging over nine points a game, led by Martin's 18.3 points per game and McGinley's 16.7 points and nine rebounds per game.
The Griffins finish up the Fairfield Inn Tournament against host Northwest Nazarene University tomorrow at 6 p.m. MDT. The game will be streamed live through NNU. Watch the live stream
