PROVO--Westminter and BYU women's basketball met for a an opening season exhibition game. The Griffins led for nearly 30.5 minutes and led by as much as 11 points. The Cougars made a second half surge for the win, 69-61.
Four Griffins scored in double-digit figures. Junior
Sarah McGinley led the Griffins with 22 points, followed by senior
Kaitlin Toluono with 14 and juniors Mariah Martin and
Hunter Krebs scored 10.
A strong first half shooting performance saw Westminster take a 10-point lead in at the half. Westminster shot 48% (14-29) from the field and 53% (8-15) from three for a 10-point lead over the Cougars who were 31% from both the field and three.
Turnovers helped swing the momentum in favor of BYU. Westminster gave up 23 points on 19 turnovers to seven scored from 10 turnovers by BYU.
Westminster is back in action on Thursday in an exhibition at the University of Utah.
