Griffins Comeback against Grizzlies

ALAMOSA, Colo.--Sami Black scored her first career goal to lead a Westminster (8-3-2, RMAC)comeback on the road against Adams State Grizzlies (3-9, RMAC).

"Another solid performance despite a slow start," Head Coach Tony LeBlanc said. "We made our adjustments in the second half and finished some good chances."

"Sami did great today and both her goals were very timely."

The Griffins out shot the home team 9-2 in the first half but fell behind in the 16th minute after Mollee Heeney scored for the Grizzlies.

The goal did little to distract the Griffins who were able to level the game through Sami Black who scored her first career goal in the 31st minute.

It didn't take long for Westminster to score and take the lead in the second half. Micah Frederick assisted Black for her second goal giving Westminster a 2-1 lead. Emma Heyn doubled the Griffins' lead in the 61st minute, assisted by Kailee Balthaza-Chang.

The defense held the Grizzlies to just three shots in the half. Hillary Weixler made saves on all three efforts to safely see the Griffins to the end.

Westminster returns home for games against Colorado State University Pueblo on Friday and New Mexico Highlands University on Sunday.
