DURANGO, Colo.--The Griffins (7-3-2, 4-3-1 RMAC) defeated the Skyhawks 1-0 (3-6-2, 2-4-2 RMAC) thanks to
Aimee Kurfurst's second half game-winner.
"Today was a great team effort and strong performance all around," Head Coach
Tony LeBlanc said. "We ramped up the pressure in the second half and were rewarded with a big time goal by Aimee."
Westminster out shot the Skyhawks 17-6 with 12 shots coming in the second half. Kurfurst and
Skye Jefferies combined for eight of Westminster's shots and four of the shots on goal.
Westminster took four shots before Madison Schmidy assisted Kurfurst for the game-winner in the 66th minute. The Griffins were sure to get another goal had it not been for the heroic effort of Fort Lewis goalkeeper Katie Dunbabin making six saves to deny Westminster any more goals.
The Griffins recorded their seventh shutout of the season.
Hillary Weixler made two first half saves and the defense held the Skyhawks to only three second half shots.
Westminster finishes the weekend at Adams State on Sunday at 11 am. Links to watch the live stream and follow live stats are available at www.westminstergriffins.com.
