Make It A Dozen, Win Streak Continues

Sicilee Williams leads the Griffins to victory for a second straight night.

LAKEWOOD, Colo.—Make it an even dozen.  Westminster women's basketball (13-2, 11-0 RMAC) defeated Colorado Christian (CCU) Cougars (8-9, 6-5 RMAC) on Saturday to extend its win streak to 12.  The Griffins are unbeaten in conference play and sit atop the standings with Colorado Mesa.
 
Westminster led by six at the end of the first half, 28-22.  The first quarter was a back and forth battle.  Westminster scored the first three baskets of the game for the initial lead.  CCU battled back into the game with a couple of free throws and a three-pointer.  CCU finished the quarter with a four-point lead after two ties and three lead changes.
 
Points were harder to come by during the second quarter.  Denise Gonzalez and Sicilee Williams each hit a three in the opening five minutes to take the lead back.  The Cougars tied the score twice in the next couple of minutes before Westminster went on 6-0 run to close out the half in the lead, 28-22.
 
The Griffins stretched its lead to nine in the third quarter and further separated themselves from the home side during the fourth quarter.  Westminster went 5-10 from the field, 2-5 from the beyond the arc and perfect from the stripe on 11 attempts, finishing the game with an 18-point win
 
Williams led the Griffins in scoring for a second straight night.  She logged 37 minutes and led all scorers with 17 points.  She finished 5-7 from the field, perfect from three (3-3) and the free throw line.  Williams also led the the Griffins with seven rebounds and two steals.
 
Kaylee Carlsen was Westminster's second leading scored with 16 points.  She led the team with four assists and recorded a block in 35 minutes.
 
Kaitlin Toluono went 7-7 from the stripe to score 11 points.  She recorded two steals and four rebounds.  Olivia Elliss grabbed seven rebounds and a block.  Gonzalez pulled down six rebounds
 
The Griffins are on the road again next week.  They take on Western State on Friday and Colorado Mesa on Saturday.
