Griffins Win Eleventh In A Row

Women's basketball defeated a stubborn Regis team to remain unbeaten in conference

DENVER, Colo.—The Westminster women's basketball team (11-2, 9-0 RMAC) defeated Regis Rangers (9-6, 5-5 RMAC), 69-64, and remain unbeaten in RMAC play with its 11th win in a row.
 
Regis was 1-13 from the field in the opening seven minutes and the Griffins made a 11-1 run with points from Sicilee Williams, Kaylee Carlsen and Hunter Krebs.  At the end of the first quarter Westminster held a five-point lead, 17-12.
 
The momentum swung in favor of Regis in the second quarter.  Westminster opened the second quarter scoring six points for its largest lead of the game, 11 points, for a second time.  Regis got hot, made 5-6 field goals and 4-4 three-pointers to finish the quarter on a 16-4 run to send the teams into the locker room tied, 29-29.
 
The Griffins finished the third quarter with a five-point lead after trailing for three minutes.  Kaitlin Toluono was the lone scorer in a 7-0 run that finished the quarter.
 
The Rangers nearly tied the game with 5:46 left in the game.  An important 7-0 run gave the Griffins an eight-point lead with a little over two minutes left in the game.  The Griffins finished the game finished 4-6 at the line for a 69-64 win.
 
"Regis was on a roll and played with tremendous effort and crushed us on the glass," Coach Shelley Jarrard said.
"Kaitlin gave us a huge lift in the second half.  We got looks inside with Hunter and Sis (Sicilee) was outstanding on both ends."
 
Williams was 8-12 from the field, 1-2 from three and 1-1 from the line to lead the Griffins with a season high 18 points. Krebs made 6-9 field goals and made 5-6 free throws for 17 points.  Karlsen scored three threes to get to 13 points and Toluono scored 11.
 
Toluono led the team in rebounds with six.  Krebs, Gonzalez and Carlsen each grabbed five boards.
 
Westminster finishes the road weekend at Colorado Christian tomorrow.
