Salt Lake City, Utah--Westminster men's lacrosse hosted Johnson & Wales-Denver in an exhibition game. The Griffins dominated from the start and cruised to a win.
"Johnson & Wales were a spirited team and didn't give up," Head Coach
Mason Goodhand said. "It's not easy being a new program and to play back-to-back games on the road against more established programs."
Westminster jumped out of the gates to start the game and scored on its first three shots. Westminster out shot the Wildcats 28-1 in the first half and nine players scored to give Westminster a 14-0 lead at halftime. Â
Westminster controlled the second half as they did in the first half. Four more Griffins added their names to the score sheet. Westminster out shot the visitors 19-1.Â
Ian Sime was forced to make the only save of the game in the final minutes to preserve the shutout.
Thomas Sarjeant recorded eight assists and led the team with eight points.Â
Kolton Atkinson scored five and assisted two for seven points and
Jackson Zerba scored three and assisted twice.
Nick Marcy had two goals and and Assist and
Bridger Fisher scored once and assisted twice for three points.
Chance Beutler and
Ian Nadel each went 12-14 on face=offs. Beutler led the team with 8 ground balls and Nadel had seven.Â
Chance Beutler and Colt Barnicki each gathered four ground balls.
Westminster's next four games are on the road. They travel to Adams State on Friday and CSU-Pueblo on Sunday. They will play at Rockhurst and Lindenwood the falling week, then finish at home with three games.
