SHAWNEE, Okla.--The Griffins opened up conference play with a dominating win over Oklahoma Baptist. Westminster defeated the Bisons, 19-4, and improve to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the RMAC.
The Bisons kept the game tight for most of the first half.
Katie Hendershott and
Allison Lambert scored early for a 2-0 Westmisnter lead. A second goal from Lambert and a goal from
Madison Ingman kept the Griffins in the lead as the teams traded goals. Oklahoma Baptist scored the next three goals to take a one-point lead. The Bison lead lasted a brief 32 seconds when a goal from
Katie Adams brought the game level.
Audree Erekson and Hendershott each scored within a minute of Adams and regained the lead, 7-5, with 12 minutes remaining. Goals from
Brenlee Fordham, another from Hendershott and two more from Adams extended the Griffin lead, 11-7, going into halftime.
Westminster shut the home side out in the second half and scored eight more goals in the second half for a 19-7 win. Adams scored two, Hendershot and Lambert each scored one more and Ingman scored four to finish the game.
Ingman and Adams each had seven points with five goals and two assists. Adams caused six turnovers and picked up four ground balls. Ingman gathered three ground balls and caused two turnovers.
Lambert scored four goals, caused four turnovers and gathered six ground balls. Hndershott completed her hat-trick and added one ground ball and two caused turnovers.
Daisy Mele, Erekson and
Hanah Webster each tallied five caused turnovers. Mele picked up three ground balls, Webster picked up five and Erekson had two.
Westminster has two more games on the road this week. They play Rockhusrt on Friday at 3 PM and Lindenwood on Sunday at 10 AM. Both games will be broadcast on the RMAC Network and live stats will be available. Links can be found on the women's lacrosse schedule.
