About the Griffins

The Griffins finished 2017 with a 7-6 overall record and a 5-4 conference.  Finishing in fifth place, Westminster made it into the conference championships but suffered defeat to Fort Lewis, 9-12, in the first game.  The Griffins were picked to finish fourth in the preseason coaches' poll.

Westminster returns 16 players from last season's squad.  "The experience and leadership from these players is helping the freshmen integrate and will help us keep the momentum from last season," head coach Nikonia Harding said.

The attack returns five players that were among the top seven point earners from last year—Katie Adams, Allison Lambert, Madison Ingman, Audree Erekson, and Katie Hendershott.

Adams was second on the team with 41 points.  She scored 34 goals and tallied seven assists in 13 games.  She was ranked fifth in the RMAC averaging 2.62 goals per game.

Lambert scored 26 goals and tallied seven assists for 33 points.  Ingman recorded 31 points with 23 goals and eight assists.  Erekson scored 15 and had three assists for 18 points, and Hendershott scored sick and assisted 11 goals for 17 points.

Daisy Mele returns for the Griffin defense, and Taylor Hekking returns in goal.

Mele was named to this year's All-RMAC Preseason Team.  She led the Griffins gathering 36 groundballs and tallying 19 caused turnovers.  She was fifth in the conference for ground balls, averaging 2.7 per game.

Hekking averaged 6.31 saves per game and was ranked seventh in the conference with 46.3 save percentage.

The team attempted 27.3 shots per game, averaging 14.2 goals per game.

"The team has been working hard and we are excited for these first games," Harding said.  "We play two good teams and feel we can match them and get two wins this weekend."
