Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Eric Stephens

Sydnee Taylor steps up big to lead Griffins against Regis

Westminster defeat Regis on the road, 64-55

The women's basketball team defeated the Regis, 63-55, and completed a sweep of the Rangers this year. Westminster outscored Regis 11-1 from the bench and 19-5 off of turnovers. The Griffins improve to 13-7 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) and 14-10 overall.

"That's a big road win against a very well-coached team," remarked Head Coach Shelley Jarrard.

The score was tied twice, during the first quarter, and the lead changed hands twice, with the home side ending the quarter with a two-point lead.

The Griffins had their first substantial lead of the game in the second quarter. Regis scored the first basket of the quarter to go up by four. Westminster responded with a 9-0 run and a five-point lead. Westminster held the lead for nearly 11 minutes.

The Rangers made a 13-2 run to begin the third quarter and regained the lead. Westminster made a 16-4 run that covered the final 5:41 of the third quarter.

Regis was able to tie the game with 2:14 remaining. Taylor, Gonzalez, and Carlsen each scored in an 8-0 run to finish the game, defeating the Rangers, 64-55.

Sydnee Taylor led the Griffins in scoring, rebounds, and assists. She scored 17 points, setting an individual season game-high, dished out five assists, and collected eight rebounds.

Hunter Krebs scored 11 points, Kaylee Carlsen had 10 points, and Denise Gonzalez scored eight and tallied five assists.

Sicilee Williams and Krebs each collected four rebounds. Gonzalez tallied five steals and blocked two shots.

"It's that time of year when you need other players to step up and have great games. We did that tonight with Sydnee. Kaylee has turned into a solid point production player, and Hannah came in and defended well. Hillary took two charges for us when she came in, and that fired us up," coach Jarrard said.

The Griffins wrap-up the year with two games on the road against Adams State and Fort Lewis. Both games will be broadcast on the RMAC Network and be available to follow through live stats.
