The men's basketball team hosted the No. 12 Colorado School of Mines last Friday. Both teams were tied with a 5-1 conference record. The Griffins were defeated by one point, 65-64, and suffered its first home loss of the season.Â
The Griffins begin the new year with a 9-2 overall record and a 5-2 RMAC record.

Friday's game was a battle between two evenly matched teams, tied at the top of the RMAC standings. Westminster started off strong, making three 3-pointers and building a 12-point lead. The Orediggers came back into the match with 10 minutes remaining in the half and slowly chipped away the Griffin lead. The Griffins trailed, by one, going into the second half.Â

Westminster only scored two baskets in the first six minutes of the second half as the away team increased its lead to 10.Â
Dayon Goodman scored from the paint to begin an 11-0 run to regain the lead with 10 minutes remaining.

The lead changed 5 more times before the game was decided. The Orediggers had a one-point lead with 2:53 left in the game. The game finished in favor of Colorado School of Mines, 65-64, as neither team made a basket in the final three minutes of play.

Dayon Goodman led both teams in scoring with 33 points. Westminster shot 43.6 from the field, scoring 10-17 from beyond the arc, and 54.5 percent from the free throw line.

UPCOMING GAMES
Westminster travels to Colorado Christian University on Thursday and Colorado School of Mines on Friday, in a rematch of last weekend's game. Thursday's game is scheduled to tip-off at 7 p.m. and Friday's game is scheduled to tip-off at 3 p.m..

The Cougars are 13
th in the RMAC with a 3-10 overall record and a 2-5 conference record. The conference wins came against UCCS and Black Hills State.

Jeremiah Hanson and Stefan Hackethal lead the team in scoring with 206 points, averaging 15.8 points per game. Isaiah Hanson is third with 185 points and Marcus Fager is fourth with 114 points.
J. Hanson leads the team with 61 rebounds, collecting 4.7 per game. Fager is second with 59 rebounds, 4.5 per game, and Hackethal has 51, averaging 3.9 per game.

Westminster is in its third year as a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference at the NCAA Division II level. Last year the Griffins finished fourth in the RMAC standings with a 16-8 overall and 16-6 RMAC record.
