Box Score ST.GEORGE, Utah. – The Westminster women's soccer team fell 8-2 to Dixie State Friday afternoon in St. George. The loss puts the Griffins at (3-2/0-0) as they head into their conference home opener on Sunday.
The home team came out firing on all cylinders in the first-half scoring seven of their eight goals by the 40th minute and compiling a margin the Griffins could not overcome. The first goal would come by way of a penatly kick at 5:12. Westminster went into the half down 7-0.
The Griffins would get on the board in the 2nd half off a free kick from
Jayde Jones at the 65th minute. The second score of the game came in the 89th minutes also by way of a free kick scored by
Jayne Christensen from the top of the box.
The Trailblazers out shot the Griffins 26 to ten.
Breanna Empey and
Sara Weixler shared time in the box defending eight attempts and coming up with seven saves. Dixie had the advantage in corner kicks six to five and the final foul count was twelve for the home team and nine for Westminster.
The Grififns return home looking to bounce back as they host Colorado Mesa Sunday in the
RMAC home opener at 2:30 pm from Dumke Field.
