Box Score Salt Lake City, Utah. – The Westminster women's soccer team lost for the first time this season as they fell to Cal Poly Pomona 2-0 Thursday in non-conference play. The loss puts the Griffins at (0-1-1) to start the 2017 season.
The visitors scored in the 17th minute with a goal by Daisy Duran assist Samantha Putnam. Cal Poly Pomona edged the Griffins with shots on goal 12 to 7 and corner kicks 8 to 1.
The Griffins saw four of their seven shots on goal and fought to get on the board and tie the game. The visitors from Pomona, California would seal the game with a second goal at the 85th minute mark by Amanda Duran assist by Stephanie Rodriguez.
"We are a young team this year and have some growing pains ahead of us. We had moments in the game that looked really good and we just need to keep building on those for longer periods", said Coach Tony LeBlanc.
Gabriella Sorensen led the Griffins with three shots, followed by
Jayde Jones,
Libby Dearden, Jayne Christensen and
Sara Weixler each with one.
Breanna Empey took the loss in goal with seven saves.
