Neither team was able to find a winner in regulation, but in the fourth minute of extra time the Griffins secured their second home win of the season. Following an MSU-Billings foul just outside the area,
Danny Darelli stepped up and slid a shot past the keeper to seal the win and second consecutive victory of the season (2-0).
""I was very pleased with the way the guys played today. I thought we created a lot of opportunities and Connor scored a beautiful goal. The second half started with a big mistake, conceding the tying goal, but we kept our composure and discipline and kept pushing forward. We were very aggressive in the overtime because of the situation and Blaze put himself in a good position that caused a dangerous tackle and we were rewarded with the PK that Danny buried. I thought we deserved the result and look forward to playing a strong NNU team on Saturday."Westminster Coach Josh Pittman said.
It took 28 shots on Thursday to get the win and the Griffins put ten of those chances on goal. They held MSU-Billings to 3 shots – one on goal – and held an 11-1 edge in corner kicks.
Max Medley earned his second win of the season in goal for the Griffins with 1 attempt and no saves.
Westminster will return to action on Saturday when they host Northwest Nazarene. The game from Dumke Field will begin at 4 p.m. with tickets available at
