DURANGO, Colo. – The Westminster women's lacrosse team couldn't compete a weekend sweep on the road as they fell to Fort Lewis 12-10 on Sunday afternoon in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play.
 
Westminster (5-3, 3-2 RMAC) trailed 4-0 to start the game before coming all the way back to tie the game at 7-7 entering halftime when Audree Erekson scored 15 seconds before intermission. Fort Lewis (3-5, 3-2 RMAC) scored the first three goals of the second half and never surrendered that advantage.
 
The Griffins got consecutive goal from Madison Ingman to cut that deficit to 10-9 with 11:58 to play. After the Skyhawks scored, Kira Heiden notched the Griffins final goal at the 3:01 mark. Fort Lews sealed the win with an insurance goal in the final minute.
 
Westminster attempted 26 shots on the day and they put 18 of them on goal. They secured 16 draw controls and went 16 of 23 in clearing attempts. Each team picked up 36 ground balls.
 
Ingman led the Griffins with four goals while Heiden finished with two goals and two assists. Katie Adams had three goals.
 
FLC finished the day with 33 shots and they forced the Griffins into 24 turnovers. The home side went 24 of 26 in clears with Westminster creating 18 turnovers.
 
Adams led the Griffins with five draw controls and two caused turnovers.
 
Taylor Hekking made the start in goal and made nine saves in the first half. Mikala Anderson took the loss with four saves in the second half.
 
Brooke Galle led Fort Lewis with three goals.
 
The Griffins are now set to return home where they will host Rockhurst on Thursday at Dumke Field. The RMAC contest is slated for a 4 p.m. opening draw and tickets are available at WestminsterGriffins.com/tickets.
