LOGAN – Westminster women's basketball had its  game of the  the 2017 season, an exhibition against the Aggies of Utah State.  The Griffins had the lead at the end of the first half, 35-33, but were unable to get the win as the Aggies bounced back to win 72-55.
 
The first half of play between the Griffins and the Aggies was very close.  The game was so close that the lead changed nine times in the half.  The Griffins had the largest lead in the half, leading by six points once.

The Griffins outscored the Aggies in the first quarter, 20-17, shooting 22 of 55 and 43.8 percent. Shooting three of four from the 3-point line kept the Griffins close to the Aggies who outscored the Griffins 16-15 in the second quarter.
 
USU made a 16 to 4 run to start the third quarter and jumped to a 10-point lead, 49-39.  Westminster kept USU from increasing their lead the rest of the third quarter, but they were unable to overcome that early run USU outscored Westminster 20 to nine and finished the quarter with the lead, 53-44.
 
Free throws were the difference in the fourth quarter. The two teams were pretty equal on shots.  The griffins scored five of 14 and the Aggies scored 6 of 14.  Free throws made all the difference at the end.  The Aggies scored seven of 11 and the Griffins only had one of two.  The Aggies won, 72-55, when the buzzer sounded.

Sydnee Taylor ended the game with 20 points, shooting nine of 17, and had nine rebounds, eight defensive and one offensive.  Junior 
Elsie Carpenter and junior 
Denise Gonzalez both scored nine points.  Gonzalez was three for three for 3-pointers in the first half and had six rebounds, five defensive and one offensive.  Carpenter had four rebounds, three offensive and one defensive.
 
The Griffins travel to Irvine, California, to play the Concordia Eagles.  The game is scheduled for Friday, November 10, at 3:00 PM.  The game will be available through Concordia Universities
