For their second game of the season, the Westminster women's basketball team traveled to Irvine, California, to play Concordia University Irvine, an NCAA Division II member of the PacWest Conference. The Griffins were better shooting from the field and free throws, but were unable to make up the difference of Concordia's 13 3-point shots, losing 67-59.
Five and a half minutes into the game the Griffins held a three point lead over the home team. The Eagles went on a 15-5 run, including three consecutive 3-points shots, giving the Eagles the first half lead.
The Eagles began the second period with a 3-point shot to lead by 11 points. The Griffins cut the lead down to four, outscoring the Eagles nine to two. A late push by Concordia pushed their lead back to 11 to end the half.
The Griffins out shot the Eagles in the second half and outscored their opposition 16 to 15 in the third period and 14 to 12 in the fourth period. The Griffins shot 45.4 percent from the field and 100 percent, eight for eight, from the free throw line. The Griffins got within five points twice in the fourth period but each time the Eagles answered immediately with a 3-point shot to halt a comeback.
Three Griffins finished with double digit points. Hunter Krebs shot five for six from the field and was perfect from the free throw line, three for three, and the 3-point arc, one for one.
Max Shelley scored three 3-pointers and finished the game with 12 points and one assist.
Sydnee Taylor finished with 10 points and
Denise Gonzalez scored seven points and had six assists.
Westminster will play two games in Pueblo, Colorado, facing Davenport on November 17 and Northern State on November 18.
