GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – Westminster played its first Rocky Mountain Conference game on the road against Colorado Mesa. The undefeated Mavericks (8-0, 2-0 RMAC) hit 13-of-24 3-pointers in their 83-52 win over the Griffins (1-5, 0-1 RMAC).
Mesa came out hot, going 5-for-5 from beyond the arc, and Westminster came out cold, going 2-of-8 from the field, to start the first quarter. The Griffins scored five points and held the home team to three in the final three minutes of the quarter, trailing 22-9.
The Griffins scored 17 points in the second quarter, hitting three 3-pointers, four field goals and one free throw. The Mavericks scored 24 points, shooting 76.9 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from beyond the arc.
Westminster struggled in the third quarter scoring only nine points and allowing 20 points to the home team.
The fourth quarter started with the Mavericks going on an 11-2 run. Siciliee Willimas hit a 3-pointer with 5:25 remaining and the Griffins went on 14-4 run to finish the game.
Sicilee Williams was the top scorer for Westminster with 12 points. She pulled down four rebounds and led the team with four assists.
Haddi Williams scored nine,
Hunter Krebs and
Kylie Hale each had seven, and
Denise Gonzalez had six points.
Shelley and Krebs each had five rebounds to lead the team.
