PUEBLO, Colo. – The Westminster women's basketball team lost their second game of Al Kaly Shrine Classic to Northern State University.  The Griffins were unable to recover from a 19-point first half deficit and lost 79-56.
 
The first quarter was one the Griffins will want to forget as they only scored four points from two free throws and one layup.  The Griffins were better in the second quarter scoring 15 points, nine of the points off of turnovers.  The griffins were 6-27 from the field and 5-6 from the line while Northern State put up 37 points to lead at half, 37-19.
 
The Griffins improved offensively in the second half and were much more competitive with the Wolves.  The Griffins kept the third quarter close, scoring 13 to the Wolves' 17, and even closer in the fourth quarter, scoring 24 to the Wolves' 25.  At the end of the game Northern State prevailed over Westminster, 79-56.
 
The Griffins scored 17 points off the 21 Northern State turnovers.  Thirteen of those turnovers were steals by the Griffins with 
Denise Gonzalez and 
Kaylee Carlsen getting four each.  The team pulled down 10 offensive and 16 defensive rebounds.  The team tallied 10 assists and 4 blocks.
 
Gonzalez led the Griffins in scoring with 13 points.  Gonzalez shot 31.2 percent from the field, scoring two 3-points.  She had three defensive rebounds, three assists and four steals.  Hunter Krebs scored 12 points for the Griffins and shot 45.4 percent from the field with two 3-pointers.  Krebs pulled down an offensive and defensive rebound.
 
Haddi Williams led the team in scoring off the bench with 8 points and two rebounds.  Carlsen added six points and tallied four assists.  Carlsen pulled down three rebounds, had one block and 4 steals.  Kylie Hale scored three with two steals and one assist and 
Hillary Weixler scored one with four rebounds.
 
The Griffins play two games next week, the day before and the day after Thanksgiving.  On Wednesday, the Griffins play an exhibition game against Weber State University.  Tip-off is scheduled for 12 p.m. MST.  On Friday, the Griffins play at Dixie State University.  Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m. MST.
